Southern CC, Inc. is proud to announce that it has started a project to provide homes to US veterans nationwide. This work is made possible through our extensive partnerships with financial institutions who are: (1) Committed to serving the veteran community to the fullest; and (2) Recognize the importance role of optimum care and affordable housing solutions as a means to facilitate long-term growth and stability.

The National Low Income Housing Coalition notes that there are about 2.5 million veterans who are 55 years of age or older. Out of those, 24 percent cannot afford the growing burdens of housing costs. These veterans are more likely to have a disability (35 percent compared to 28 percent) and often need modifications for health and other services as they age.

Female veterans also face unique challenges compared to men. For example, nearly half of pregnant veterans spend 30 percent of their monthly income on housing. While this amount reflects guidelines suggested by affordable housing advocates, it is very high for female veterans given the additional expenses they face related to their health and recovery. Thus, many female veterans experience housing instability and are especially vulnerable to rising housing costs in comparison to male veterans.
