Holistic Community Garden

CREATING A HEALTHIER COMMUNITY

Inspiring our youth and those suffering from PTSD, as well as the entire broader community, is our ultimate mission at Southern CC. Through our holistic community garden initiatives, we aim to do just that.

ABOUT THE HOLISTIC COMMUNITY GARDEN

the problem

A calming space where our community can relax and also enjoy access to clean, healthy, and organic foods is nearly impossible in urban areas. Often called ‘food deserts’ these urban areas live our most vulnerable populations without nutritious foods that can fuel the body, mind, and soul. We
aim to change that.

WHAT WE DO

Southern CC has purchased land where veterans, youth and community can take part in creating healthy foods right out of their own community garden. Our mission to inspire the youth and our neighbors motivated us to take action and create a place where everyone can feel empowered.

WHO BENEFITS

Our community garden is 100% open to the public, and we welcome everyone to come and explore it and take a class or two with our agriculture expert. Learn how to grow your own foods right from your deck, balcony, or even inside your apartment, with help from our experts.

Experience Our Community Garden & Programs

Our Holistic Community Garden is located on 2 acres in the heart of one of the area’s most well-known food deserts. It features a large community garden area along with multiple other garden features such as a meditation garden and an area for education.

Our Programs

In addition to our garden, we also have programs where we not only offer a chance to take home healthy foods but also teach them how to eat and what to eat. Our holistic garden is run and operated by Rashard Macintyre. Rashard is the director of our garden programs and holds a background in agriculture. He shares his in-depth knowledge of how to grow healthy foods, explains what each vegetable needs to grow to completion, and when the best time is to harvest. This experience allows members of our community to enhance their knowledge while consuming healthier foods.

Exotic Plant Life

Exposing our community to exotic plant life they may never have before been exposed to, is another element of what we strive to do with our holistic community garden. That’s why we feature plant life like the Venus fly-trap and many others, which enhances the experience of our garden and makes it an even more desirable location.

Open to The Public

Our community garden is 100% open to the public, and we welcome everyone to come and explore it and take a class or two with our agriculture expert. Learn how to grow your own foods right from your deck, balcony, or even inside your apartment, with help from our experts.
