You, Me, and Us Holistic Community Garden (YMUS) will assist the underserved in Fayetteville by improving the community’s well-being by providing fresh organic produce and a space for healing and positive social engagement.

ABOUT THE YMUS HOLISTIC COMMUNITY GARDEN

the problem

Food access is a health justice issue. The food drought has further complicated access in Fayetteville, leaving our most vulnerable populations without nutritious foods that can fuel the body, mind, and soul.

The Solution

YMUS will transform the community through meaningful engagement and promotion of a food forest. Visitors will discover the benefits of planting, nurturing and picking their own produce. In the holistic garden, interactions among gardeners, plants, animals and the environment produce results greater than the sum of individual parts.

PROGRAMMING

Currently, YMUS occupies 2 acres of land in the heart of Fayetteville. Through generous donors and partnerships, children on the autism spectrum benefit from interaction with live animals.

8 Week Gardening Course

The YMUS gardening classes will be an 8-week course taught once a week for 120 minutes on Saturdays. The demographics will be geared toward youth, veterans, nursing homes, and children under the autism spectrum. The goal is to have at least 20 participants in the summer program. The instructor will explain how to use grow bags to grow the vegetables. The participants will produce the following vegetables developed throughout the eight weeks: radishes, cucumbers, beans, zucchini, squash, peppers, tomatoes, and green onions. The classes will be broken up into two segments. The first session will be 90 minutes, consisting of prepping, gardening, nutrition, and taking care of the crop, and the other 30 minutes will consist of how to cook, recipes, and overall health. The students will compile weekly notes about the successes and challenges of lessons and bring those documents to class.

Become an inaugural donor of YMUS

Remember and honor loved ones and friends permanently by ordering a custom engraved paver. A contribution of $250 will pave the way for a space of healing and positive social engagement. A special dedication ceremony will take place upon installation.
